How
do I move pages between computers?
In
order to move pages between computers, it is necessary to use the
import and export functions. To save a spread to a disk, save and
close the spread. Go to the File menu and choose
Export Spread . A screen will appear listing the
spreads. Click on the Browse button if “a:\” is
not displayed. Click on the words “3½ Floppy A:,” then the OK
button. Back on the Export Spread screen,
click on the correct spread (or multiple spreads by using the Control
key) and click on the Export button.
Why
don’t samplers use customized specs?
When
using a Sampler for pages, specifications/properties have to
be
adjusted manually. Samplers default to the specifications used
when they were created at Taylor .
Templates you create yourself default to your General Book Specifications.
Set all necessary properties on your Templates before using
them.
How
do I change specifications?
To
change specifications for the entire book, go to the Tools menu
and click on Book Specifications. Changes made here will not adhere
to spreads that have already been created. To change specifications/properties
of specific objects, select that object and go to the Object menu
to select Properties. Making changes to a Properties screen will
only change the selected object.
How
do I index/mark names?
As
you work your yearbook pages, you may want to “mark” your names.
By “marking” names, you can later create or add to your Master
List. Many yearbook staffs use the Master List to create an index
for
the yearbook. To Mark Names on Pages, highlight a typed name, go
to the Text Menu and select Mark Name. If you have several names
together in a caption, like for a group photo, you may highlight
all of the names together as long as those names are separated
by
a comma and word space (i.e. John Smith, Jane Doe, Mike Smith).
With all the names highlighted, go to the Text menu and select
Mark
Name. Be sure to avoid highlighting words like First Row. However,
you may highlight and and or with these groupings;
the program will not index these two conjunctions. After “marking” a
name, a strike through or line should appear through the name.
If you do not see the strike through, the option to Show Strike
Mark Names is not activated. The option to view strike through
lines
on names is entirely up to you.
How
can I create a dropped initial letter?
Dropped
initials should be created using two separate text areas. The large
initial letter should be alone in a regular text area. The other
text area will have to “wrap” around the large letter. A polygon
text area is necessary to accomplish this. Go to the Insert menu,
down to Text Area and click on Polygon. Draw a regular square/rectangular
area like you normally would. Click on the arrow/pointer button
on the toolbar in order to shape your polygon area. Click once
on
the drawn text area. To manipulate the shape, simply click and
drag on any of the four red handles. To add more handles, click
and drag
between two existing handles. By clicking, dragging and adding
handles, you can control the look of your text. Shape the area
around the
large initial to get the desired effect.
How
do I add folio text?
Folio
text may be added/edited by going to the Edit
menu and choosing Folio Settings . Select Left
Page or Right, whichever needs editing. Folio copy can only have
34 characters. If more is needed, create your own text area and
place near the page number as desired.
How
can I create a scoreboard?
Scoreboards
have to be done manually. Create one text area for each column and
set the patterns accordingly.
How
do I flow text into more than one area?
Text
areas must be linked in order for text to flow from one area to
another. Areas must be drawn and selected in order from left to
right. Hold down the Control (Ctrl) key on the keyboard to select
multiple areas/objects. Once all areas are selected, go to the Text
menu and click on Link. Text areas can link across the gutter, from
one side to the other of a spread. Text cannot be linked from one
spread to another.

and resave the image. When the TIFF Options screen appears, deselect
LZW Compression.
What
is Error -.5?

book. Check the size of the image area in width and height on the
layout. Open the image in Photoshop or PhotoShop Elements. Go to
the Image menu and select Image Size. Change the Print Size/Document
Size from inches to picas and enter the correct width and height

Why
does Invalid Spread Format appear when trying to save a spread?
Usually
means that the yearbook user does not have all the necessary rights
to use the program. They must have Read, Write, and Create rights
to the Database folder. If the message only occurs on a specific
spread, it indicates the spread is corrupt.
What’s
the difference between Export Spread and Ship Spread?
Exporting
spreads is for use in moving pages from computer to computer.
Exported
pages may not contain imported digital images. Shipping spreads
is the correct way to submit pages to Taylor for yearbook production.
A spread must be Shippable in order for Taylor to produce the
pages.
If the spreads contain imported images, only the Shipping process
will gather the complete files. Shipped spreads also encode the
pages with school specific information. Taylor needs to be able
to tell one school’s pages from another.
Why
is my spread unshippable?
The
shippability status is visible on the status bar at the bottom of
the screen and can be checked by going to the Tools menu and selecting
Shippability. Unshippable spreads will list errors that must be
fixed in order to ship pages to Taylor. Warnings listed on the screen
indicate possible issues of concern.
What
is a tip-in?
A
tip-in is an additional insert of pages, for an additional cost.
These pages do not count towards the overall page count of the book.
Tip-ins may be placed at the beginning and end of a book. They can
also be inserted between signatures, every sixteen pages.
What
is a cutback?
Page
one and the last page of a book always has a cutback. If a tip-in
is being inserted between signatures, every sixteen pages, a
cutback
is needed on the last page of the tip-in. On pages that must have
a cutback, elements need to be moved further away from the gutter.
Instead of the gutter falling at zero picas on these pages, it
is
cutback to 1 ½ picas. Backgrounds have to be at least 1 ½ picas
away from the gutter. Text areas must be at least 2 ½ picas away.
Adjust all elements as necessary.
Why
won’t pages ship to a CD?
The
EliteVision/EZDesign on Disk/ and Tempo programs do not recognize
many CD drives as an actual drive to ship pages. When shipping
pages,
if selecting the CD drive is not successful, follow these instructions:
Create a folder somewhere else on the hard drive of the computer,
either on the desktop or in My Documents. Ship the pages to this
folder. Copy or burn the contents of this folder to the CD. Be
sure
to get all files to the CD, including the specs file. Do NOT copy
the actual folder to the CD. Copy Receiving will not be able to
open the folder.
